Carbide Coating (RFS 1502T-The Ultimate in Wear Resistance and Release)

High Tech Coating
High Tech Coating

In our continuing efforts to develop materials to meet the varied needs of our customers, Racine Flame Spray, Inc. has developed a Fluoropolymer Impregnated Tungsten Carbide coating that will provide the release characteristics of Fluoropolymer over the industry proven wear resistance of our RFS 1500 series Tungsten Carbide.

The high temperature Fluoropolymer is applied over the tungsten carbide and cured to form a permanent bond. While the tungsten carbide provides superior wear resistance, the Fluoropolymer remains in the "valleys" to provide release.

This coating provides not only release and wear resistance, but a level of corrosion resistance as well. This application has already been used on paper machine felt rolls with excellent results.

Carbide Coating (RFS 1502F - Sheeter Draw Rolls)

Optimum operation of your sheeter is dependent upon traction being maintained between the sheet and the draw roll. The roll must be of the proper diameter to meter out the correct length of sheet. After several years of operation, the draw roll (or bull roll) can become worn or damaged by the doctor blade, and sheeter operation begins to suffer.

Racine Flame Spray, Inc. can help restore your sheeter to like new condition and operation. If the roll is not too badly damaged or out of true concentricity, we can apply a coating of tough, long lasting tungsten carbide to the roll. In this application, our RFS 1502F coating will last for many years providing superb traction and wear resistance. With minimal disassembly of the machine's covers to allow access to the roll, we can coat most sheeter draw rolls in your facility in 4 to 5 hours on the machine.

If the roll has sustained damage or is badly out of round, we can grind it true and build up the O.D. to the proper diameter. We can then regrind the build-up layer and apply the tungsten carbide traction coating. We could also coat your spare roll in a lathe at your facility or in our specially designed stands.

Ceramic Coating (Water Pan Rollers)

Racine Flame Spray offers a line of ceramic-coated water pan rollers for the printing industry. With the use of alcohol free solutions many printers are finding that our durable ceramic coated rolls are superior to the industry standard chrome plated rolls. The semi-porous microstructure of the plasma sprayed ceramic also makes it more hydrophilic than chrome, and provides a uniform layer of water across the roll.

With our Stainless Steel end caps and careful attention to manufacturing details, our water pan rolls will give you outstanding service in your presses, while providing outstanding corrosion protection. We will also make rolls to your specifications. Please call us to discuss this and other applications that you may have.

Ceramic / Fluoropolymer Coated (Palm Guides)

Racine Flame Spray, Inc. will either manufacture palm guides of stainless steel and coat them with our special long wearing RFS 5136T ceramic/fluoropolymer coating or we will apply our ceramic/fluoropolymer coating directly to your palm guides.

Ceramic/fluoropolymer coated palm guides are used today by many of our paper mill customers. The result is a longer wearing guide and longer life for paper machine clothing.

We currently stock several different sizes and configurations. You will appreciate the long wear and improved edge life of your felt.

Corrosion Resistant Coating (RFS 4103S)

Corrosion is a problem every papermaker must deal with since many of the process streams and surrounding environment are corrosive. Racine Flame Spray, Inc. has developed a corrosion resistant coating, RFS 4103S, that gives you the protection you need at a price that is affordable. RFS 4103S is an austenitic stainless steel (similar to 316 SS) with an organic sealer. The base coating is applied using an H.V.O.F. (High Velocity Oxygen Fuel) Process giving it high bond strengths and density. The sealer is then applied to fill any porosity and create an impervious barrier. This coating has excelled in felt roll applications where chrome plating was previously used. It is also recommended for protection against cavitation and particle erosion at temperatures less than 1,000 °F (540 °C)

Corrosion Resistant Coating (RFS 1843, Corrosion and Mirror Finishes)

RFS 1843 is a tungsten carbide/cobalt/chrome coating that is sprayed through the High Velocity Oxygen Fuel (HVOF) thermal spray gun. The result is a tough durable coating that also affords a measure of corrosion resistance due to the presence of chromium.

This coating can be polished to a near mirror finish and has been used successfully on Kusters, Suction Press and Sym Rolls in paper mills. The unique properties of this coating also make it ideal for supercalendering, cast film extrusion and other applications.

High Release Coating

Racine Flame Spray, Inc. is pleased to announce the launching of two new families of high release coatings. The new RSG and RSC coatings are designed primarily for use in the converting industry where durable, non-stick surfaces are required. Typical applications include coatings for idler rolls and components used in handling adhesives, hot plastics and other sticky materials.

The release coatings are applied over a thermally or plasma sprayed layer, yielding durable coatings with a wide range of surface textures. The RSG coatings are the premium products, with a tough gray silicone topcoat over a wear resistant metallized or ceramic base. The choice of base material would be determined primarily by electrical conductivity requirements.

The RSC coatings have a clear silicone topcoat with excellent release, but lower wear resistance than the gray coatings.

Another great feature is that many of these coatings can be applied at the customer's location, using Racine Flame Spray's extensive experience in doing on-site work. Racine Flame Spray has been providing thermal spray coatings to industry for over 25 years and has developed a reputation for excellent quality, reliability and service.

Metallic Coatings (RFS 7600E - Sealed Aluminum Coating)

If corrosion is a problem in the wet end of your paper machine, try RFS 7006E coating. This aluminum/epoxy coating provides dual protection against corrosion and is especially effective on fly rolls in the supercalendar section.

To create this coating, we spray an aluminum base coat with a 2-part epoxy sealer over it. The sealer is then cured to create an inert barrier.

This coating is a great replacement for the white paint used by most O.E.M.'s because even if the sealer wears out, there is the aluminum base coat to provide corrosion protection.

Below are the specifications for the coating. Please call us for a FREE sample, or if you have any questions regarding this product.

Metallic Coatings (RFS 3015R - On-Site Dryer Can Coating)

We offer RFS 3015R as an alternative to fluoropolymer sleeves that are very delicate and easily damaged, and fluoropolymer impregnated coatings, which are expensive and cannot be done on-site.

This coating can be sprayed on-site, provided that the can is accessible. The 1st and 2nd cans after the size press are usually easily done. For cans other than the 1st or 2nd, we will send one of our qualified Sales Technicians to your mill to inspect the installation and discuss the possibilities with you.

The coating is a nickel-chrome-boron alloy, with a silicone release agent sprayed on immediately afterwards. This result in a long lasting durable release coating that can be doctored. Best of all, most cans can be coated in 8-10 hours!
